Brother TN-115Y Toner June 13, 2010 Danny (San Diego, CA) Product as advertised. Easy installation. So far so good since it's only my first toner replacement. Although pricier than generic, well worth the extras since Amazon has the best pricing and free shipping. Highly recommend it.
Buy the real thing for Brother printers May 19, 2010 H. Hicks (Oregon) I bought some off-brand knock-off ink toners for our Brother printer. After 2 months of troubleshooting problem after problem, we finally bought some Brother toners to see if that would help. Literally every issue we were having was solved instantly. I don't know what they do to their printers, but if you have a Brother, only buy their toner. (But use all the tricks you can find to make your toner last longer.)
Genuine Brother Toner Best Price By Far January 24, 2010 J Shapiro (Sacramento, CA USA) Genuine Brother Toner Best Price By Far
I shopped toner online at Staples, OfficeDepot, OfficeMax and Amazon blew them all away. Wasn't interested in knockoff refills so had to read carefully to identify the real deal - Genuine Brother OEM toner.
Brother Toner January 19, 2010 Tom (Flemington, NJ United States) Be sure to buy Genuine Brother toner cartridges. For the extra money, also buy the high yield version as well. Like others have posted, do not toss these ass soon as the printer tells you the toner is out. They can be reset and will provide considerably longer life than Brother leads you to believe.
Brother TN110 and TN115 toner January 17, 2010 geneD (Palo Alto CA) I have the Brother HL-4040CDN which uses the TN110 or TN115 hi yield. The following information is gleaned from google searches for remanufacturing the two types of cartridges.
The rated yields for North American market is 110 black, 2500 pages, 110 color 1500 pages, 115 K 5000 pages, 115 color 4000 pages.
To keep the density of the color constant over the life of the cartridge, the printer starts out with a hi voltage bias and gradually reduces it as determined by the number of drum revolutions. The low life cartridge has a gear with one rib which revolves over 1500 pages and the hi life cartridge has a gear with two ribs. When a new cartridge is inserted a gear pushes up and resets the drum bias voltage to high.
Various available pictures clearly show what gears one needs to reset to the bias to high to continues printing from the partly used cartridge.
The color toners should run out together only if they had been installed at the same time.
I did not play around with resetting the gear on my original lo yield cartridges, but I will try that with the hi yield cartridges. Since it affects the bias voltage, we shall see if it makes any difference in the color tonality. However, for my purposes, I use inkjet printers for my "serious" color photography prints. I am very satisfied with this printer/toner in my home office and general printing.
This printer does not use a chip to keep track of the usage and does not have a clear/back drum reset mentioned in a comment for a different model.
